How Our Services Work

There are six simple steps in the HomeShare Vermont process:

  • Call HomeShare Vermont at 802-863-5625 or download application pages on this site (using this link).

  • An in-depth interview is held at the home of the person seeking a Homesharer or Caregiver, or in the HomeShare Vermont office for someone seeking housing or employment.  Family members are encouraged to participate.

  • References are checked and possible matches researched.

  • The applicant decides whom to meet, then decides whether she or he wants to meet again, match, or not match.

  • A written homesharing or caregiving agreement is created with the help of HomeShare Vermont's staff.

  • Periodic follow-up is provided during the match.

HOW LONG IT TAKES

The time that it takes to match individuals varies.  We do our best to generate introductions quickly, but our services are not designed to meet immediate or emergency needs.  Very often, it can take several months to find the right match.

SERVICE FEES

A $15.00 application fee is charged to all customers.   This fee helps to off-set the costs of the initial interview and reference checks, and processing of the application.

A match fee is due once the two parties are committed to live with each other through the written match agreement.  Match fees are based on a sliding income scale.   These fees range from $30 to $275.  (Hourly Caregivers pay $10 per match).

EMPLOYER RESPONSIBILITIES

Note: This only applies to caregiving.  HomeShare Vermont is a matching service and not an employer for those we match.  Whether you hire an hourly or live-in caregiver through us or on your own, you are responsible for taxes, withholding, and unemployment insurance.

HomeShare Vermont has information available on these issues and can refer you to payroll services that help with this task for a fee.  Before hiring a caregiver, please ask us for this information.

MORE INFORMATION

We invite anyone who wonders if Homesharing or Caregiving is for them, a friend, or a loved one, to call and talk with a member of our staff.  The HomeShare Vermont staff is always ready to listen and help find ways to meet each person's unique needs.
